2011 PGA Tour Adj. Short Game Rankings 4.13.11

Here's the 'Adjusted Short Game Rankings.' When it comes to the PGA Tour, the most relevant part of the game around the green from a statistical standpoint is shot proximity to the cup from shot within 20 yards of the green. I consider 'shots around the green' to be shots from 1-49 yards away.

I've created a formula to best represent this and here's the current rankings.

Again, these ranking seem suspect. Really? Phil's short game is worse then Bo Van Pelt's and Hunter Mahan's? Frankly, something is wrong in this analysis.

Again, for the millionth time. We are only 3 months into the season. So things will change. A few weeks ago Ryuji Imada was 6th in Danger Zone rankings...now he's 57th and given his history, he'll probably continue to dip as the season goes on.

And just because a player has a 'name', doesn't mean that they will always be good at something.

Ben Crane just made it more difficult for the average golfer. Good description on how bounce works for sure, but his demo from the fringe was misleading. The average golfer would blade it or chunk it using 14* of bounce on that particular shot. He would never use that club and bounce technique.

He should use a flat faced iron like the 6 7 or 8. Where bounce comes in is from the rough and from soft, wet, or fluffy lies. Sure the accomplished golfer can use any club from just about any lie and bounce is their friend. But the average golfer, most of whom were standing around the green during his clinic absolutely must learn the fundamental of a forward leaning shaft at impact, and the easiest way to learn it is with their chipping technique. The player that can benefit from using bounce has already discovered this nugget of wisdom and is probably not attending the complimentary clinic of a touring professional.

Again, here is another example of well meaning instruction from a tour professional that borders on malpractice. I love Ben but stick to playing bro.
