Here's a couple of swings with a Hogan Bounce Sole 1+ 6-iron.
I reverted back to more of my old posture because the 'new posture' was screwing up my footwork and causing me to spin out. I also had to work to get back on the elbow plane in the downswing again. The backswing looks much better and overall the swing is getting there.

Is the Haney Project out of the question for you? You got nothing on Barkley.
ReplyDeleteI want my game to get better, not worse.

Are you still doing ABS?
ReplyDeletejust an observation, but to me, it seems like your posture at address is extremely hunched over.
ReplyDeleteI know everybody has their own style, but i can say that i have never seen anybody with such a low down posture at address.
is there any particular reason for this?
i can say that even with that low posture, your backswing is very nice.
Richie,
ReplyDeleteGREAT blog!!
Just for reference, how far do you carry your standard 7-iron?
I'm 6'4" as well and would love to hear your thoughts on being tall and trying to play golf at a high level... no pun intended :-)
Yes, I'm still in ABS. As far as posture goes, if you watch the old golfers from the 70's and earlier, lots of 'bad posture.' But modern pop golf instruction has the 'straight spine' posture at address, so you don't see many top golfers today with anything but a straight spine posture. I want to keep my downswing flat and have irons that are 6* flat. This will allow me to use the ground easier to push off of and have 1-way misses instead of 2-way misses.
ReplyDeleteAt the end of the day, does the clubhead/face etc. know what angle the shaft is attached to it?
ReplyDeleteSeems like you can get to the point that you have to work so hard to swing the equivalent of "flat" but could accomplish the same clubhead dynamics without being so low to the ground.
Yes, the clubface and head does know what the lie angle is attached to it. It better, or you can hit it fat or off the toe or off the heel despite taking a good swing. I don't work that hard on getting a flat downswing now. It comes pretty naturally, but I always check to make sure things don't get out of whack and if they do, I can correct them right away and spend less time doing it than if I let it go until I was striking the ball really bad.
ReplyDeleteAnd I don't think there's anything wrong with being closer to the ground. In fact, I find it to be advantageous. Like Moe said 'always get shorter in the downswing, never get taller.'
